What materials do you use?
All GEM IT UP! materials are top quality.
Our line of jewellery is all SWAROVSKI CRYSTALS and the metals are sterling silver, rhodium, 18K gold plated or brass, dipped in either Gold or Silver. All of our finishes have a final coat of anti-tarnish on them and are of high quality. All of these items are nickel free and hypo-allergenic for most people, unless you have any extreme allergy and can only wear solid gold. We recommend not wearing your jewellery in the shower, when sleeping or when exercising. Different skin makeup and sweat can cause brass jewellery to brighten or become darker with repeated wear.
Can I order a custom piece?
Yes! Email me a picture of what you are interested in making and a price point. I will then do my best to make it happen!
For examples of CUSTOM orders I have done, please see my Instagram account @gemitup.jewellery or email me and I can send you pictures.
We want to make sure any jewellery purchased through us lasts for years. Here are a few quick tips to keep your collection safe (and sparkly):
All our pieces ship inside a box. Since extended exposure to air can oxidize any jewellery, we highly recommend storing your Gem It Up! Jewellery pieces flat in the box they are packaged in or a velvet bag (coming soon!).
While wearing out and about in the world, avoid jewellery contact with water and chemicals. Our pieces are plated in 18K gold or sterling silver, rhodium, or brass, so to ensure the longevity of the finish, avoid direct contact with perfumes or scented lotions as well. Remove and set aside while washing dishes and hands, or hitting the pool or beach.
Wear and tear:
Watch out for your crystals, as many of our pieces feature hand-set stones in prong settings. If a prong gets caught on something and is raised up, secure the stone with your finger to keep it in place and carefully push the prong back down with a pair of pliers or flat, hard object. (Beware not to scratch the stone.)
Keep in mind that everyone's skin is different, which can affect the level of tarnish or wear on your jewellery. To keep it clean, polish pieces with a soft cloth. Do not apply chemical jewellery cleaners, as this can damage the plating.
You can always contact us with your questions. We stand behind our jewellery 100%. Please note that we can't be held accountable for disregard of this advice. For items purchased on our website, we do offer complimentary repairs for extenuating circumstances (such as snapped chains, missing crystals.)
